The People's Church of Dover

Organizational Life of the Church

The governing body is the membership assembled in church meetings. Our officers are a Pastor, Moderator, Treasurer and a Clerk.

The Board of Trustees is chaired by the Moderator and includes the above officers, four at large members (all of whom are elected each year for a one year term) and the chairpersons of each Board (Diaconate, Management, Christian Education, Missions and Outreach, and Finance). They appoint a nominating committee and an investment committee annually. The primary responsibilities of this board consist of the smooth and orderly operation and administration of the church (including proposing a balanced budget to be voted upon by the membership) and its program.

The Board of Diaconate, consisting of twelve members, is responsible for pastoral relations, worship services, music, membership, evangelism, visitation, ushers, altar guild, and sacraments. The Board oversees the Diaconate Fund and the Memorial Fund. The Board appoints annually the following lay volunteer leaders: Altar Guild, Caring Ministries Committee, and Music Committee.

The Board of Management and Assets, consisting of nine members, is responsible for the property and assets, property maintenance, non-professional employees, and insurance. They are responsible for the staff of an administrative assistant and a full time sexton.

The Board of Missions and Outreach also has nine members and is responsible for basic support of denominational programs, stated special offerings, emergency offerings, denominational delegates, ecumenical and community relations and social and community services.

The Board of Finance has six members. The Board has the responsibility for the financial administration of the church including collection of funds, custody of financial records, annual audit and supervision of policies for the processing and payment of bills.

The Board of Christian Education has nine members and is responsible for the educational program and its administration, a church library, the youth program and child care during church services. We have classes for all ages, infants through adults.
